The Invoice - an introduction
When goods are sold or services performed, many times the clients (or buyers) expect to receive an invoice for those goods or services. An invoice is your way of showing what work was done or what item was sold and asking for payment.

Although it will depend on your client's preferences, an invoice should generally contain:
  • Your address
  • Your contact information
  • Your social security number or FEIN
  • The client or buyer's address
  • Who assigned the work or authorized the purchase
  • A job number or description
  • A description of the work performed or the goods sold
  • The cost of the work performed or the goods sold
  • Terms in which the client will need to pay you
